Inspired by a deep appreciation for the Appalachian Mountains and fond memories of childhood vacations in his family’s summer home in Western North Carolina, Distinctive Building & Design founder Tom Hines relocated from south Florida to Waynesville, North Carolina, in 1997. His goal was to apply his extensive experience as a high-end builder in the Sunshine State to create stunning mountain residences. Driven by referrals from happy clients, Distinctive Building & Design quickly became a thriving business and remains so today.
In 2000, Tom expanded the company by becoming an independent licensed importer – the only U.S. importer east of the Mississippi – for Honka Homes USA. Log homes by Honka are known worldwide for their unique designs and impeccable quality standards.
